Working as a freelance writer within the Online Features team at The i Newspaper, I am responsible for creating interesting, engaging and newsworthy articles on a regular basis.
Mainly focusing on city content (Edinburgh, Glasgow and other major UK cities), I am required to pitch my own ideas as well as write up briefs given to me by the editorial team. Articles range from top 10 lists to in-depth interviews.
Part of my job involves keeping up to date with all the latest news in key cities, particularly Edinburgh, in order to find stories which would work well for The i’s audience. This covers a variety of topics, including food and drink, work culture, entertainment, film and TV, music and lifestyle.
I am often required to contact sources for interview, organise guest articles with key contributors and obtain relevant images for each article, in addition to writing up the articles themselves – always keeping The i’s tone of voice and target audience in mind.
Working at The i has strengthened my ability to work to tight deadlines, as well as my capability for creating engaging and sharable content that brings readers to the website.
