Despite not actually having any Christmas parties to go to, this time of year always makes me want to indulge in some pampering, and update my beauty routine (and break out the glitter nail polish of course). I recently headed along to Zen Lifestyle for a wee pre-Christmas treat, and it was just the thing to get me feeling relaxed and ~zen~ ahead of the busy month of December.
Custom Facials at Zen Lifestyle
Zen Lifestyle kindly invited me along to try one of their custom facials. I’m pretty happy with my skincare routine at home so don’t often get a facial, but it’s nice to do it once in a while for a proper deep clean – and the chance to lie down and relax for an hour or so!
Each facial starts off with a skincare consultation. My therapist asked me about the products I was currently using at home, what type of skin I had, and what my main skin concerns were. After taking a look at my skin, she then decided which products would be best suited to my skin type and condition. By getting this skin consultation at the start, it ensures each facial is personalised for each client so you get the full benefits.
Zen Lifestyle use a lot of Murad products in the salon, so my therapist picked out the ones that would suit me best. As I have quite a bit of redness in my skin, we used a few from the Sensitive range – including the Soothing Gel Cleanser, the Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum and the Correcting Moisturiser. I also got a glycolic peel as part of the treatment, which left my skin feeling smooth, soft and radiant.
The facial also included a head, shoulder and arm massage which was very relaxing. The treatment rooms at Zen Lifestyle are super cosy (you even get to snuggle up underneath a faux fur blanket!) so it was really easy to switch off and have a completely chilled out hour of pampering.
Omnilux LED Facial Treatment
After the main part of my facial was finished, I got to try out the Omnilux treatment. You can have this on its own, or combined with any of Zen’s other custom facials. The Omnilux is an LED machine which uses light to stimulate skin cells, counteract the effects of ageing and enhance the effect of skincare products.
It was a bit weird at first – the light is SO bright, it feels a little bit like you’re being catapulted towards the sun – but you soon get used it. Omnilux promises to lift and hydrate your skin, improving your skin’s tone and texture, and smoothing out fine lines. It’s hard to tell whether the Omnilux or just the normal facial were responsible, but my skin certainly did look and feel great after the treatment. If you want to give your skin an extra little boost, I think the Omnilux LED treatment is definitely worth trying out.
Worth a Visit?
I have visited Zen Lifestyle quite a few times over the years for various treatments, including HD Brows, shellac manicures, massages and facials. They’re always a reliable option when you fancy a bit of pampering, and their central locations (on Hanover Street and Bruntsfield Place) make them easy to get to.
The treatments are a little bit on the pricier side, with custom facials starting from £59 for 40 minutes or £79 for 60 minutes. But I think it’s totally worth it if you’re after a properly luxurious treatment or you have some skin concerns you want to work on. A relaxing facial or massage would also make a great Christmas present that’s thoughtful and a little bit special. Zen Lifestyle offer a range of vouchers for specific treatments, spa packages or monetary vouchers which can be redeemed against any treatment.
