If you know me in real life (or even if you just know me on the internet) you’ll no doubt know that 90% of my clothes are black. Black jeans, black jumpers, black t-shirts, black dresses… black everything, basically. The only problem with this is fading. I’m sure you’ve all been there. After a few washes black jeans, in particular, tend to turn a not so lovely shade of patchy, faded grey.
When I heard about Surf Perfect Black, I knew it had my name written all over it. This new detergent is specially formulated for dark clothes, and helps to prevent your black clothes from fading. The Surf team tasked me with trying out the #SurfPerfectBlack challenge. I had to wash a new pair of black jeans, using the Surf Perfect Black liquid detergent, five times and then style up an outfit to see how much they had (or hadn’t) faded.
As you can see, the black jeans look pretty much as good as new. No greyness in sight! I styled up my new Topshop Sidney Jeans with a top I picked up in Primark last week for a day exploring Stockbridge and eating cake with Louise. I’ve been after a floaty sleeve top like this for months, but this is the first one I’ve found that a) I like and b) suits me. I love the little embroidered details, and the dark colours are perfect for autumn and winter too.
The gold studded boots were also a recent purchase from Primark. They’ll be great with black jeans and a cosy jumper for a casual outfit with a wee bit of festive sparkle. I also chucked on my leather jacket from French Connection and a scarf from Accessorize, but it was actually pretty warm for late October, so I didn’t really need them in the end – but leaving the house in Scotland without a jacket is just asking for trouble! Finally, to add a pop of colour to an otherwise all black outfit, I wore a bright red bag from H&M. Don’t forget burgundy nail polish and deep red lipstick for maximum autumn vibes.
I’m really impressed with how well the Surf Perfect Black has worked. Having washed my new jeans a few times now, they’ve barely faded at all. In the past, I’ve had jeans which have faded after just one or two washes which is not ideal. As you can see from the Surf test samples below, after 20 washes with the Surf Perfect Black liquid detergent, black jeans are still looking great compared to the same number of washes with a regular powder laundry detergent. I also love the midnight orchid and lily scent, it’s so lovely and floral, and certainly brightens up laundry day.
Black jeans are a staple in my wardrobe all year round, but particularly during autumn and winter when I spend most of my time wrapped up in cosy jumpers and scarves. Hopefully now my well-worn black jeans will always look good as new, and all my other dark clothes will be looking tip-top all winter thanks to Surf Perfect Black.
