When I first heard that eteaket and Isle of Harris Gin were teaming up to make a gin tea, I was very intrigued. I’m not really much of a tea drinker, however I do really like eteaket’s fruit teas (especially the strawberries & cream one), so I couldn’t wait to find out what the gin tea was like.
The Isle of Harris Gin Tea* is made up of the same distinctive botanicals as the gin, so inside the tea caddy you’ll find an unusual blend of juniper berries, coriander, angelica root, orange peel, liquorice root, cassia bark and sea kelp from the Outer Hebrides. Rather than having it as a hot drink, I decided to go one step better and use the tea to create a gin iced tea cocktail.
Perfect if you fancy something a little more unusual than a standard G&T, this gin iced tea cocktail mixes zesty lemon and grapefruit flavours with the strong, distinctive botanical notes of the gin. For best results, use the Isle of Harris Gin so the flavours match perfectly, but you can substitute it for another gin if you don’t have any to hand.
Gin Iced Tea Cocktail Ingredients (Makes 1):
- 50ml Isle of Harris Gin
- 25ml eteaket Isle of Harris Gin Tea
- 25ml sugar syrup
- 25ml lemon juice
- cloudy lemonade
- grapefruit wedges
- ice cubes
Gin Iced Tea Cocktail Method:
- Brew a cup of the eteaket Isle of Harris Gin Tea and set aside to cool.
- Add the Isle of Harris Gin to a tumbler, along with the cooled tea, sugar syrup and lemon juice.
- Add a squeeze of grapefruit and a generous handful of ice cubes or crushed ice.
- Top up with cloudy lemonade and give everything a quick stir.
- Garnish with a wedge of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.
The great thing about this recipe is that it’s really easy to customise. If you prefer things sweeter add a little extra sugar syrup, or if you like the strong botanical taste then pop in another shot of tea. This gin iced tea cocktail is perfect for the summer as it’s nice and refreshing – plus you could make up a big batch and serve it from a teapot if you’re having an afternoon tea cocktail party!
The Isle of Harris Gin Tea is available to buy online or from eteaket’s Edinburgh stores at 41 Frederick Street and 111 Rose Street.
