Whenever the seasons change, my skin always takes a little bit of time to adjust. Winter has left my skin feeling a bit dry and dull, but I’ve added a couple of new products to my evening skincare regime to help put things back on track for spring.
With a few old favourites and a couple of new additions, here are my current essential products for a quick and easy spring evening skincare routine.
Step 1: Cleanser
I had never used an oil cleanser before as they didn’t really appeal to me, but after trying the Aster & Bay Cleansing Oil* I’m definitely a convert. I usually take my makeup off with micellar water first, then go in with the Aster & Bay Cleansing Oil for a proper, luxurious deep clean. Not only does this stuff get rid of any last bits of makeup and dirt from throughout the day, it also leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft. It’s the perfect evening skincare product as it feels quite indulgent, yet it only takes a couple of minutes to massage in and then wipe off with a hot muslin cloth.
I also love that Aster & Bay are based right here in Edinburgh, and the products are handmade using natural ingredients. The whole product range is vegetarian-friendly (and most of it vegan-friendly too), cruelty-free and made without parabens or preservatives. The Cleansing Oil also smells amazing thanks to the lemon, mandarin and grapefruit oils – mmm!
Step 2: Mask
I don’t use a face mask every night, but every couple of weeks (or as my skin needs it) I’ll reach for my favourite Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask. This mask is great if your skin is feeling dry and lacklustre as the manuka honey helps to draw moisture to the skin. It has a lovely, light scent and feels nice on the skin – unlike some other masks it doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or uncomfortable. I’ll pop this on, leave it for around 15 minutes and then wash it off for soft, glowing, hydrated skin.
Step 3: Serum
To keep skin plump, healthy and hydrated I use the Rohr Remedy Kakadu Plum Vitamin C Face Serum* after cleansing. This serum feels really refreshing on tired skin, and it sinks in quickly too which is great for your evening skincare routine. It contains extract of kakadu plum, and indigenous Australian plant which has a really high vitamin C content. This then helps to promote the production of collagen in your skin, keeping it looking young and healthy.
Rohr Remedy is an Australian brand which uses unique, natural ingredients from the Bush to create natural and luxurious skincare products. Everything is made from Australian plant extracts and oils that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, backed up by scientific research to make sure the products all work effectively. It’s available in the UK from Laura Thomas Linens.
Step 4: Oil
I only use an oil if I feel like my skin needs it, but on days when my skin is feeling particularly dry I slip the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate into my evening skincare routine. This stuff works to repair and regenerate skin overnight, so you’ll wake up with much softer, smoother and more hydrated skin. It’s pretty potent stuff so you only need a couple of drops to cover your whole face. Despite being an oil, it doesn’t feel heavy, sticky or slimy at all – it sinks into the skin really quickly, especially if your skin is really dry and crying out for a moisture boost!
Step 5: Moisturiser
And finally, moisturiser! I’ve talked before about my love for this skincare product and it all still stands. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream* is a bit of a cult product, and for good reason. It has a nice light texture but it packs a punch when it comes to hydration. This is great to use in the morning, but I also use it as part of my evening skincare routine as it’s a really versatile moisturiser that works well overnight too. Just like all the other products I’ve mentioned, it’s quick and easy to use, sinks in quickly and is totally mess- and fuss-free – just what I want when I’m getting ready to go to bed! Kiehl’s also use lots of natural ingredients in their skincare, they’re committed to sustainability, scientific research and they also support lots of different charities so they’re a great option if you’re looking for ethical skincare.
