After settling down with some cocktails (look at the SIZE of that Bubblegum Daquiri!) we perused the menu and had a chuckle at the cheeky descriptions which Cilla Black herself would have been proud of. I eventually settled on Contestant #4 who described himself (?) as follows:
I'm not telling porkies when I say this. I like my flames how I like my dates - red hot, dangerous and naked. Pick me and you've pulled.
Yep, that sounds about right. I was fairly confident that this burger would include pulled pork, and I wasn't left disappointed. It turned out to be the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger from the new hand-crafted burger menu. Served up in a brioche bun, the beef burger came topped with BBQ pulled pork, pickled red onions, Colby cheese and Mesquite & Hickory BBQ sauce. YUM. Well done Gillian, you might not know how to pick a man-date but your burger-date skills are top notch. I never really have high expectations for chain restaurants, but this was honestly one of the best burgers I've had in ages. I loved how saucy (wink wink) the pulled pork was; sometimes it can end up being a bit dry, but TGI Friday's pulled pork was smothered in delicious barbecue sauce to keep it nice and juicy. Everyone else at the table agreed that TGI's are on to a winner with their burgers. Kirsty and Laura went for the French Dip Burger which came with gravy (!!), melted cheese and garlic mayo, and Lynne and Iona opted for the Friday's Double Glazed Jack Daniel's Burger with a sweet and smoky glaze, Monterey Jack cheese, candied bacon and the infamous Jack Daniel's sauce.
As always, the cocktails were sweet and boozy which is more than enough to keep me happy. I had a Southern Comfort based cocktail along with my burger to keep the American theme going, opting for the Paradise Punch which mixed together Southern Comfort, amaretto, vodka and grenadine along with pineapple, orange and lime juice.
I really loved TGI's new burger menu and would definitely recommend trying it out. I'm looking forward to the Edinburgh branch re-opening, that'll be yet another burger haunt to add to my ever-growing list!
Have you tried any of TGI Friday's new burgers yet?
