MAC Rebel Lipstick // £14
I bought this lipstick way back in November(ish), and even though it’s not a very ‘everyday’ sort of colour, I have used it quite a lot since then. Usually reserved for nights out rather than a trip to the shops, MAC Rebel is a bright purpley-pink that gives a nice flash of colour which is both bright and dark at the same time. Looking at the bullet, I expected it to be a much deeper purple which would create a slightly gothy statement lip, but when applied it’s actually a very wearable bright pink with a hint of purple to make it a bit darker.
Rebel is a Satin finish lipstick which means it has a pigmented, long-wearing formula and a semi-matte finish. It has the intense colour of a matte lipstick without the unforgiving dryness. The semi-matte finish also means it stays on the lips for a good four or five hours before you need to reapply, so it’s great for nights out as you don’t have to worry about touching it up too often. Once it starts to fade, it also leaves a bit of a stain on the lips which is handy if you’re lazy at reapplications! It’s great at staying in place and I find that I don’t even need to use a lipliner along with it. Rebel also looks great dabbed on to the lips and then topped up with some lip balm for a little bit of daytime colour without being too bold.
Having done a quick search of reviews and swatches, I think Rebel is one of those lipsticks that looks slightly different on everyone. On me, it’s definitely in the ‘pink’ category, but it’s much more purpley than any of my other bright pink lipsticks. On some people it looks like a pretty deep purple whereas on others it’s more of a bright magenta, so if you’re not sure about it I’d definitey recommend trying it in-store before you buy. I love the colour of it on me, it’s such a deep, rich colour without being too far out of my comfort zone.
I haven’t got all that many MAC lipsticks in my collection, but of the ones I do have Rebel might just be my favourite. I used to think MAC lipsticks were pretty expensive, but the price of ‘drugstore’ makeup seems to be slowly increasing, so for a good quality, reliable lipstick I don’t think £14 is too bad a price.
