I’ve been meaning to do one of these posts for years. Like, actual years. I finally remembered to take some photos whilst the flat was nice and tidy, plus I’ve recently got a few new homeware things so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show you them. I’ve lived in this flat for almost 4 years now, and I seem to have accumulated rather a lot of stuff during that time! Some of the furniture (sofa, chairs, dining table, coffee table, lamps etc.) is the landlord’s but everything else is stuff that me or my flatmate have bought. Some of it is pretty old now, but I’ll try to add in links to all the things I can find online!
The living room isn’t huge, but it’s nice and cosy and it’s definitely my favourite room in the flat. As you come in the door, you’ll see the sofa and armchair (which I think are kind of ugly, but they’re comfy so I can’t complain too much!) which are usually covered in various blankets and cushions. The tartan blanket on the sofa is a ~vintage~ one – i.e. an old one from my Granny – and the one on the armchair is from Ikea a few years ago. The cushions are all from Zalando, the printed fox and rabbit cushions are by Frohstoff* and the superrrr cute patchwork fox is from Sass & Belle*. I’ve ordered a couple of things from their clothing department before but I had no idea Zalando also had such a great selection of homewares too. There are so many things I want, there are lots of lovely little European brands to browse through so it’s a bit different to the usual high street homewares! The coffee table came with the flat, but I’m pretty sure it’s this one from Ikea. I bought the metal flower jug a few months ago from Ebay and I love having fresh flowers on the coffee table – tulips are the flower of choice at the moment.
In the old fireplace, there’s an Ikea Expedit shelving unit with the TV (which I inherited as my parents were buying themselves a new TV, score!). I’ve got a couple of wicker baskets and storage boxes that fit in the shelves to keep assorted junk in. On the floor, there’s a wine rack from John Lewis and my flatmate’s Xbox is lurking down there somewhere too. On the mantelpiece itself there are hundreds (only a slight exaggeration) of bottles. Don’t have a cocktail cabinet, so had to make-do with a cocktail mantelpiece instead. The ones on the right are still full, but the ones on the left are empty ones I have collected – long story, it all started with a 20 year old bottle of Smirnoff and spiraled from there. There are also some skull fairy lights along the mantelpiece that I put up for Halloween about 3 years ago and never bothered to take down.
Over in the corner is a bigger version of the Expedit bookcase which has all of my university books in it as well as some novels and cookery books. Arranged by colour, of course. The fairy lights were bought from a bargain shop for a Christmas tree a long time ago, but have since been resurrected as a bookshelf decoration. On top is a new heart-shaped picture frame* from Next (can’t see it on the website, but I got it in-store at the Next event last week) with some pictures of my puppy in it. Awwww. There’s also a little glass vase there at the moment, but I have absolutely no memory where this came from! The wicker chair came with the flat, as did the square shelves on the wall which are housing my DVDs.
The dining table is in front of the window, it came with the flat but I think it’s from Ikea. I added the blue cushion pads, which are from – you guessed it – Ikea. You might recognise the corner between the table and the sofa, as this is where I usually take my outfit post photos. I bought the white side table when I moved in here and it usually has a lamp and my Wild & Wolf telephone on it. There’s quite often a bunch of flowers or a plant here too, and at the moment I’ve also got a Bali Reed Diffuser* from Next which gives the room a lovely faint tropical scent.
Hope you enjoyed this little peek into my flat! I’ll probably do a bedroom tour at some point in the not too distant future too, once I get round to taking some photos!
