I recently did a huge order from Boots (3 for 2 was on, it would’ve been rude not to) and was planning to repurchase the Models Own Lip & Cheek Stain which I had managed to drop and smash everywhere, but when I noticed this Soap & Glory offering was only a couple of pounds more expensive I decided to give it a go instead. It comes in one shade, Rosy Glow, which is a lovely rosy (obvs) pink colour that’s a great match for my pale skin.
Rather than being a liquid formula, like the Models Own one or Benefit’s Benetint, Cheekmate is more of a gel which I find much easier to apply and to blend into the skin. I find it’s best applied to my lips just with my fingers, and I apply a little dab on my cheek with my fingers then blend it out with the Real Techniques buffing brush. It looks like a very deep colour in the tube so I was a little bit worried it would be too dark for my skin, but when blended out it’s barely noticeable on the cheeks – it just gives a nice, natural flush of colour. As someone who doesn’t really like bright blushes, this is perfect. If you prefer brighter cheek colours, it would be really easy to build up more of the product to give a brighter finish. As you can see on my lips, I’ve applied it with a bit of a heavier hand and it gives a deeper, but still quite natural, pink colour.
As with most stains/tints, it does tend to stick to dry patches on the lips but as long as you make sure to quickly exfoliate/moisturise (I like to use the Pow Wow Lip Scrub from Lush) before putting it on then this isn’t a problem. The description on the packaging claims that Cheekmate has special Blushboost technology to enhance circulation and help bring out the natural blush of your skin. I’m not entirely sure if this is true, but it does seem to give a very natural looking finish!
I’ve never tried any Soap & Glory cosmetics before, but I’m really impressed with Cheekmate so I think I will definitely be purchasing more from the range. What are your favourite products?
