Top 5: Bras for Busty Girls

Those of you with ample chests will, I’m sure, be able to identify with Busty Girl Comics. Although I wouldn’t change my boobs for the world, we do seem to have an unfair number of problems to contend with! One of my main annoyances is the fact that I can’t just go into Primark or Topshop and pick up some nice, pretty and affordable underwear sets. Even Marks & Spencer – purveyor of quality pants for many years – when I checked online the other day, only had 14 bras available in my size from a selection of nearly 300. Fourteen! Ridiculous. Thank goodness for Bravissimo, is all I can say (I just want to clarify, this post is in no way sponsored by Bravissimo, I just really love them and think they are a brilliant shop!).

I first went to Bravissimo a couple of years ago as none of my bras felt like they were fitting properly and I had heard Bravissimo were really good at measuring. I went from (what I thought was) a 38DD to a 34GG – no wonder nothing fitted properly! I’ve always had a really good experience shopping there as the staff are friendly and helpful, the changing rooms are nice (I always love it when shops have changing rooms with doors instead of curtains, so much better!), it never feels busy or rushed, and it’s really easy to order things with free delivery to your house if they’re not in stock in the shop. I do sometimes order from online shops like Bra Stop as well as they sometimes have great bargains, but I much prefer to try things on in an actual shop first if I can. Here are my five favourites available from Bravissimo:

1. The Deco by Freya:

This is probably my all-time favourite bra, and it has been repurchased in several different colours. It’s super comfy and the cups are completely smooth so it’s perfect for everyday wear under tshirts or vest tops. If I could only buy one bra for the rest of time (how cruel) it would definitely be the Deco.

2. The Lucine by Bravissimo:

This bra is exclusive to Bravissimo, which means it’s not sold anywhere else. This is the newest addition to my underwear collection, and it’s fast becoming one of my favourites. Although it has some serious underwiring, it’s also a plunge style which means you can wear it with low cut tops without your underwire poking out the top. Nothing I hate more!

3. The Bettie Mae by Bravissimo:

Another Bravissimo exclusive, this was already one of my favourites and when I noticed it was in the sale recently I ordered myself another one in case I can’t find a similar one again! I really love the shape of this bra, it’s a plunge style again which I think is much more flattering than a lot of ‘big’ bras which tend to have really high underwiring in the middle which separate and flatten your boobs. I also love the bright coral fabric, it’s so nice to have a bra that’s not black or nude!

4. The Tango Plunge by Panache:

Oh look, another plunge style! It’s really flattering as well as being supportive, plus it comes in lots of different colours.

5. The Alana by Bravissimo:

This was the first ever bra I bought from Bravissimo. Although it does have that annoying high underwire in the middle, I can forgive it because it’s just about perfect in every other way. It’s really supportive and has a decent sized strap at the back which doesn’t ride up. It gives an amazing shape so it looks brilliant as long as you keep your top on, not quite so pretty and cleavage-y if you take it off haha!

Do you have a favourite style of bra? Where’s your favourite place to shop for underwear?

I used to like bravissimo but I find their prices just a bit too high. At the moment, Debenhams do a fairly good range for big busts and they usually fit really nice

I rage whenever I go in to toppers…or hell even bra shops and it's almost like..anything beyond a D cup is non existant. What unbelievable bullshit! Wonderbra's "hands" bra…easily the best strapless bra for a lady of ample titties is pretty sweet and actually Agent P's love bra is a really good fit for me (though they are now getting rid of f cups, again, what the shit?) Debhanams are actually quite good for bras, and always pick up some beautiful bargains during sale time. Bravisimo I feel like I should get on board but still feel that some of the designs look a bit…frumpy? I'm a long time lingerie fan and have gone weeks where I didn't buy food for some fancy pants (not my greatest moment..) so it's a bit gutting to see brands still not embracing titties. I'm sick of seeing beautiful bras stopping before they hit my size =( x

I am a small-chested girl, and it's just as tough at times! I put off underwear shopping for as long as possible (not cool to admit..?!) because it's such a headache.

I'm in serious need of new bras, all mine are too big now that I've shed some lbs. Boux Avenue have a nice range in bigger sizes and I love their fitting rooms and stores x

  • I love Bravissimo – I'm only an E or F cup depending where I am, so I do have the option of La Senza etc but I think that Bravissimo's bras are just mroe comfortable and flattering overall. I'm also a 30 back and have to mostly buy 32 backs in other shops because nowhere stocks the back ranges that Bravissimo have, especially not if you're above a b cup!

  • Rachael says:

I use to get mine from M&S and La Senza – cheap yet pretty enough for the larger sizes. Apparently La Senza is still in Canada selling so maybe if we ever go over the border i'll pop in, otherwise I get mine from Somes which is a rather posh but very pretty underwear shop and their larger sizes are so pretty and are worth playing that little bit extra for!

  • Katie says:

Thanks for this! I'm an awkward size – small back but d/dd cup! Even La Senza doesn't stock my size!!

I do like Bravissimo but it's a bit out of my price range. I love my boobs but I hate having to pay extra just because they're above a D. I miss La Senza. Reading the comments here – I will definitely be checking out debenhams during the sales 🙂 x

  • I got fitted in a freya deco at an event and i've never looked back, I just love it so much! i also love panache lingerie so I'm a cup size bigger in there pieces 🙂

I'm only a 34B so I can make do with Primark thankfully but one of my friends is extremely large busted and I didn't realise until she said that she couldn't just buy bras out of Primark…. Bravissimo seems cool and all and their underwear looks AMAZING, but i am very surprised that primark does not cater for the larger breasted woman too!

Such a great post! My biggest gripe with having a bigger bust is that you can't just buy a nice pretty one from any where! AND, the most annoying thing is that they are more expensive in the bigger sizes! This is such a great post though, I've heard mixed reviews of bravissimo and never tried it, I actually love Ann Summers for bras – they have great size ranges in most, they fit lovely and feel more sexy than the usual bigger bust size bras. xo

Luckily I don't usually have a problem buying underwear but I love Boux Avenue and Agent Provocateur (when it's in the sale!) you can actually get some really cute basics in there!

Woah, great review! I can definitely sympathize with the busty girl problems comics, though mine aren't exactly that big ( for an Asian though, they are larger than normal ^^; ). I do hate it when I find clothes that fit perfectly everywhere except my chest, where the buttons look like they're about to burst.

Oh I wish I could be described as 'busty' haha! My mum is and she despairs of the choice on the high street. These are great because they look pretty and not structural! I'll show my mum =) thanks!
