Supermarket Sweep

18.7.10

When I was younger I used to get lots of my clothes from George at Asda, probably because my mum hates shopping so spending an extra 15 minutes in the supermarket was much easier than spending an entire Saturday trailing around town with a 7 year old girl! Once I became a teenager, however, I stopped accompanying my mum on the 'big weekly shop', and now that I live in the centre of town there aren't even any large supermarkets near me. Having a look through the clothing sections on the websites of Asda and Tesco, two of the UK's biggest supermarkets, I think I might have to go on a mission to a store that stocks clothing as they have some great stuff for very reasonable prices.

In the past, supermarket clothing departments tended to be made up of lots of childrens clothes and mumsy blouses and knee length skirts. Now, they seem to cater much more for the teenage and twenty-something market, and many of the pieces wouldn't be out of place in Primark or New Look.

Perhaps it's a good thing my local supermarket doesn't have a clothing department, otherwise I would end up buying a new dress and a pair of shoes every time I went in to get a loaf of bread!

Do you ever buy clothes and accessories at supermarkets like Asda, Tesco or Sainsburys? Do you think supermarkets could become rivals to highstreet stores like Primark?

  1. I definately agree! I always have a good browse when I'm in the supermarkets, and there is some really nice stuff! TU at sainsbury's is also nice, they had some good florals at one point! & hey, you also save on travelling!

  2. The supermarkets in the UK must be way more fantastic than the ones in the States because we don't have cute clothes at our markets.

  3. That shift dress is incredible!!! I would wear it every week =)

And I love prescheduled posts. It allows me to take advantage of when I have lots of inspiration, and survive through those days when I don't. =)

  7. I love the dotty one! Some of these supermarkets are really good - I have a pair of shoes from Tesco and they're pretty nice. I haven't really been at many supermarkets for clothes, but I'm going to spend a little more time now...

  9. I totally agree - supermarkets have really improved hugely in their clothes departments. I'm a nightmare when I go to supermarkets - food, clothes, makeup, dvds all under one roof?! You can't get me out of there!

  10. This is kind of a culture shock because what we call supermarkets in the U.S. traditionally only sell food, produce, and household items haha. It's pretty cool that your supermarkets stock such fashionable clothing!

  18. I've been searching for that playsuit for forever! Luckily I found a dress at Asda instead, only six pounds, a multicolour tie dye tunic with shoulder pads. Sounds gross.. It's not :)
    It would be mine
